Debbie's Conquito
Once again this year I had the pleasure of catching up with Debbies Torres, Albert's sister, and as per usual Debbie's famous and very yummy creamy tropical coconut nog made with spices and white rum - Conquito, was brewed for the occasion. Debbie worked tirelessly along side her brother, but she did however find time in her busy schedule to spend time with me.

I share this recipe with you and especially for my fellow booth holders Anna, Giancarlo and Giuseppe of Bailo Dance Shoes

Again, I dedicate this page to Debbie and her now World Famous Nog in New Zealand - Conquito.

400ml Coconut Milk
1 bottle of Bacardi rum
395g Condensed milk
2 or 4 Cinnamon Sticks
1/2 lt of water
Mix: Add the coconut milk, condensed milk, rum and the cinnamon in the blender and blend well. Pour into a bottle(s) and refrigerate well. Serve in small cups and sprinkle top lightly with cinnamon.

Thanx Debbie, love you heaps Sister...

Oh My God I Can't Believe It. . .
Tell me of a show where H&M go on second and the Swing Guys go on eighth and 36 acts later you still can't believe what you're seeing......

Albert Torres and his team staged the most amazing show ever - dedications to David Melendez, tributes to inovators of dance from the days of the Palladuim - Augei and Margo Rodriguez; kidz teams from Japan, Los Angeles, Mexico and Columbia as well as performers from around the world. It was awesome, in the truest sense of the word!

David Melendez was one of the greats. Manhattan is not the only place in New York where you can find dedicated mambo instructors. The Bronx, considered by many to be the home of many top New York dancers, is another important location to mambo dance instruction. It was also the home of Mambo Instructor David Melendez and his Starlite Dance Studio. On February 8, 2007 the salsa community was deeply saddened by the sudden death of David Melendez.

Augie and Margo were both their stage names and birth names. They opened shows for Sammy Davis, Jr. and other stars of the 1950s and 1960s throughout North America, Europe and the world. Their first professional dance act was in the Waldorf Astoria in 1955 with Harry Belafonte but, prior to this, they were the popular adagio dance team at both the New York Palladium Ballroom and Roseland Ballroom where the Mambo craze began. At 79 and 78 respectively, they have just finished a season with the Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas and still continue to teach. Proof, if ever it was needed, that salsa is good for you!

Congratulations Albert on a wonderful and unforgettable evening.

And the Friends keep arriving
The Swing Guys from Italy have always and will always be one of my most favourite dance entertainers. I brought my copies of their DVD's from New Zealand so I could get them signed; I partnered Annie and attended their workshop and I look forward to their routine in tonights showcase.

John Narvaez partner of Liz Rojas from the San Francisco Bay Area had time during his meal to say hi to Cory-Lee and Ken from Whanganui, New Zealand who they met at the Australian Salsa Classic, Sydney Australia back in April this year.

We wish them well in their endeavor to get to the Worlds hosted in Orlando Florida at the end of this year.

Junior, the other half of Emily, was on sight to join his fellow Bay Area friends and Colleagues

Mr Spin from Korea is keen to talk more with World Salsa Tours on how we might be able to get more international salseras y salseros to the Korean Salsa Congress held towards the end of June each year.

First Day in LA
Catching up with salsa friends from around the world was the order of the day.

They are currently Australian Team Salsa Champions for the second year running. Adele de Coasta from Salsa Sauve, Sydney Australia and Kathy Petrakis from Latin Motion, Sydney Australia completed our first dinner at the Congress.
